Hospitality industry trade association UKHospitality is calling on the next UK Government to support the sector with its manifesto ‘Menu for Change’.
The UK hospitality industry employs 3.2 million people and UKHospitality believes the industry will grow its output by 5.5% in the next three years. It also believes the industry will increase employment by half a million in the next ten years including 30,000 apprenticeships by 2025.
‘Menu for Change’ has three key requests for the upcoming government including ‘unlock our economic growth’, which aims to rebalance the burden of business tax rates to reflect the modern digital economy and incentivise investment.
‘Boost skills and opportunities for our workforce’ is its ambition is to boost take-home pay by removing the lowest paid from tax, protecting youth employment and investing in training and innovation.
The aim of ‘Bringing our communities together’ is to build a partnership between the government and the hospitality industry. It is underpinned by the government and industry ‘Tourism Sector Deal’ partnership. It includes Tourism Enterprise Zones that will rebalance the economy and bring prosperity across the region.
UKHospitality chief executive Kate Nicholls said: “Hospitality businesses are integral to almost every community in the UK. Pubs, restaurants, cafes, hotels, nightclubs and more are features of villages, towns and city centres in every region. These businesses provide jobs and they provide investment. They are also at the centre of our social lives: these are the places we spend our leisure time with our family and friends.

“We have a chance to do so if the future government listens to what we need and acts positively to support a sector that makes a difference everywhere it flourishes.”
