By GlobalData“Well, that escalated quickly. Your love for the limited edition Chicken Big Mac knew no bounds and it’s sold out almost everywhere. Thank you for lovin’ it even more than we thought you would, it’ll be back soon,” the post said.
In the UK, McDonald’s has approximately 1,300 restaurants, of which 1,100 are franchises.
According to a report in the Independent, the company introduced the Chicken Big Mac on 2 February. Styled similarly to the beef Big Mac, it comprises two chicken breast patties in a crispy coating.
The limited offering was supposed to run for six weeks, until 15 March.
However, McDonald’s UK has temporarily withdrawn the item from its menu following all its stores completely selling out.
It is expected to be reintroduced in a few weeks, after restaurant teams and suppliers restock.
In a separate development, McDonald’s has announced its plan to enter the metaverse with a virtual restaurant concept.
Earlier this month, the American food giant filed ten trademarks with the US Patent and Trademark Office to foray into the virtual vertical.
The move will enable McDonald’s to establish a restaurant chain in the metaverse, where it will offer real and virtual items.
According to media reports, the virtual food and beverages offering will be in the form of downloadable multimedia files with artwork, text, audio, videos and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
