Kura Sushi is set to expand its presence in Japan with the opening of a new restaurant in Ginza, Japan, on 25 April 2024.
This will be the brand’s sixth location in the country and its first in the Ginza area, featuring a unique Edo-period-inspired dining concept and the longest conveyor belt in the chain.
The upcoming Kura Sushi restaurant will be located inside Marronnier Gate Ginza. It will offer a new dining experience to its guests with ‘Kura Koedo’, a space that pays homage to the Edo period (1603-1868), Tokyo’s historical era.
This concept is inspired by the woodblock prints of renowned ukiyo-e artist Utagawa Hiroshige.
‘Kura Koedo’ will recreate the ambience of Edo-period food stalls, offering guests a selection of sushi, tempura, and skewered rice dumplings.
The restaurant brand noted that these dishes will be freshly prepared and made to order.

By GlobalDataThe interior design of the Ginza restaurant will include ukiyo-e artwork and paper lanterns, complemented by plain wood tables, columns, and tatami-mat seating.
Earlier this month, Kura Sushi USA, a subsidiary of Kura Sushi, reported sales of $57.3m for the second quarter of financial year 2024, a jump of 30.5% compared with $43.9m a year ago.
The growth was attributed to a 3% increase in comparable sales and the opening of five new restaurants.
For the quarter ending 29 February 2024, Kura Sushi’s food and beverage costs as a percentage of sales decreased slightly to 29.6%, down from 30.1% in the second quarter of last year.
This improvement was attributed to the menu price increases and supply chain initiatives.
