Morocco-inspired boutique coffee brand Bacha Coffee has expanded its global footprint by opening its first South Korean store in the Cheongdam-dong ward of Seoul, World Coffee Portal has reported.

The two-storey 4,000ft² outlet seats 52 customers.

It includes a café and a retail boutique featuring 200 varieties of packaged coffee.

Seoul-based retail giant Lotte Department Store secured exclusive franchise and distribution rights for Bacha Coffee in South Korea in January 2024.

The store’s premium beverage menu offers a selection of rare coffees, including Paraiso Gold from Brazil.

Served in a 350ml gold coffee pot, this exclusive brew is priced at Won480,000 ($351) per serving.

Bacha Coffee’s history began in 1910 in Marrakesh, with its original café in the Dar el Bacha palace attracting figures such as US President Franklin Roosevelt and UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

After closing post-World War II, the brand was revitalised by Singapore’s V3 Gourmet in 2019 and now operates 24 stores across 11 markets in the Middle East, East Asia, North Africa and Europe.

Before the Cheongdam-dong store’s opening, Bacha Coffee had already made inroads into the South Korean market through a Lotte duty-free concession store in Jeju
selling packaged retail coffee since October 2023.

Lotte Department Store announced plans to open two additional Bacha Coffee outlets in its Myeongdong and Jamsil locations in the coming six months.

In the month of June, Bacha Coffee opened its first store in Indonesia. The 4,300ft² venue in Jakarta’s Plaza Senayan shopping centre includes a coffee bar and a takeaway counter.
