US-based fast-casual dining chain Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers (Freddy’s) has entered a multi-unit development deal to open ten new restaurants across Greenville and Spartanburg counties, South Carolina.
The National Football League (NFL) offensive lineman Ben Powers, in collaboration with the GVL Hospitality Group, will lead the charge for this expansion.
GVL Hospitality, which includes business partners Brett Rickert and Brian Stevens, has commenced scouting for ideal locations in each county.
The location for the first property is anticipated to be acquired by the end of this year, and the debut of the initial restaurant is scheduled for 2025.
The group intends to have all ten restaurants fully operational by 2031.
While Powers focuses on his NFL career, his business partners at GVL Hospitality will oversee the development of each franchise location.

Rickert, a resident of the Greenville-Spartanburg area, will act as the operating partner, overseeing training and management to ensure smooth operations. Meanwhile, Stevens will focus on site selection and construction.
Freddy’s currently operates more than 530 restaurants across 36 US states, with another 130 plus locations planned for development in 2024 and 2025.
Powers said: “Growing up, I always wanted to do something business-related and prove that I could make a name for myself on and off the football field.
“I’m excited for this business venture with Freddy’s; it’s one of the best burgers you can get and it’s a taste from home for me. I look forward to spreading the joy I have from my hometown with even more communities.
“Having Brett and Brian running things while I’m playing is reassuring. They’re great mentors for me and I trust them wholeheartedly as we grow the Freddy’s franchise in South Carolina.”
In June 2024, Freddy’s announced its plans to expand in Houston, Texas, through a new agreement to open 20 new locations in the city.
