US-based fast food restaurant chain Whataburger has announced the appointment of Debbie Stroud, its current executive vice-president and chief operating officer, as the new CEO.
Stroud will step into the roles of president and CEO on 1 January 2025, taking over the role from Ed Nelson, who will retire in December 2024 after serving for two decades with the company.
Nelson’s journey with Whataburger began in 2004 as controller, and he climbed the ranks to become CEO in 2020.
During his time as CEO, Nelson oversaw the brand’s expansion into 16 new US states and the opening of 250 new stores.
Nelson said: “Leading this company has truly been one of the greatest joys of my life. The incredible individuals and family members who make up our team are a blessing, and I am proud of what we have accomplished together.”
Stroud joined Whataburger in early 2023, bringing her experience from a 30-year career in the restaurant and retail sectors.
