The Shed Restaurant has opened at Mohegan Sun’s Casino of the Earth at Uncasville, Connecticut, promising a unique take on American comfort food

The new restaurant is the brainchild of BALLO Italian Restaurant co-founders John Tunney  and  John Rieger, and has generated 100 jobs.

At the helm of the culinary team is chef Roberto Baez, who has curated an all-day menu that includes brunch, lunch and dinner items.

It accommodates dietary preferences, offering gluten-free, vegetarian and customisable vegan options.

Shed Restaurant’s design features a rustic beach-chic ambience, with warm textured woods, vibrant colours and artwork to provide an inviting atmosphere for diners.

The Shed spans 8,785ft², including a 2,150ft² dining area and a 3,150ft² scratch kitchen with walk-in units, and accommodates 205 guests.

Contributions from local businesses were integral to the project, with electrical work carried out by Native Sons, based in Plainville, and the interior design and architecture by id3a from Glastonbury.

Mohegan Sun president and general manager Jeff Hamilton said: “Over the last few years, we’ve been working really hard to grow our non-gaming business throughout our property with new restaurants and creating immersive dining experiences.

“As we choose food and beverage operators and as we open new restaurants that is always our goal – to put a great restaurant inside of a great property.”

John Tunney said: “It’s a real honour for us to open another restaurant here at Mohegan Sun. We’ve been here with BALLO for about 15 years, and we have the privilege of operating inside a property that is really second to none.

“We’d like to thank the Mohegan Tribal Council, Mohegan Sun’s executive team, the engineering team, the retail leasing department and every other department we have worked. We’ve wanted to build a second restaurant for a long time, and we’re happy that day is finally here.”

The Shed was formed in 2017, and the latest location joins outlets Huntington, West Sayville, Plainview and Westbury, New York.

Mohegan Sun is located on 185 acres of land in Connecticut along the Thames River and features two casinos, 1,600 deluxe hotel rooms, two spas, two convention centres, an expo centre, a golf course, 70 shops, restaurants and bars.
