US-based quick-service restaurant Jack in the Box is expanding its smashed-patty burger line with the introduction of the Sourdough Smashed Jack.

Available for a limited time, this new offering builds on last year’s successful launch of the Smashed Jack burger.

Introduced last year, the original Smashed Jack features a smashed-style patty. It became a nationwide favourite, selling nearly 70,000 units on its first day and selling out in under two weeks. This marked the company’s most successful burger launch in six years.

Jack in the Box has since sold 3.5 million Classic Smashed Jacks and 6.5 million Bacon Double Smashed Jacks.

In keeping with customer demand for variety and value, Jack in the Box introduced this new version of a fan-favourite burger.

The new Sourdough Smashed Jack combines all this flavour and value with Jack’s famous sourdough bread. Introduced in 1991, sourdough has been a staple at the chain, with products such as the Sourdough Jack launched in 1997.

This new burger includes a quarter-pound smashed patty with American cheese, pickles, grilled onions, and Boss Sauce on toasted sourdough bread.

The combination offers a juicy beef experience with savoury toppings and signature sourdough crunch.

Available until the end of the year, fans can purchase the Sourdough Smashed Jack online, in stores, or through the Jack app.

The Classic Smashed Jack and Bacon Double Smashed Jack will also remain on menus for those who prefer these options.

Jack in the Box chief marketing officer Ryan Ostrom said: “If the last year has taught us anything, it’s that our customers love the smash patty we created and are hungry for a new way to try it.

“The new Sourdough Smashed Jack is another testament to the dedication our culinary team has to product development and innovation and finding the perfect balance of flavours. When the Classic Smashed Jack sold out so quickly last year, we knew we had a new fan-favourite on our hands — turns out, we were right.”

In September, Jack in the Box entered a franchising agreement to open 12 new restaurant venues in Chicago.
