American restaurant chain Metro Diner has opened a new location in Lakeland, Florida.

Situated at 5293 Florida Avenue South in Lakeland South Center, the 3,500ft² diner can seat 122 guests.

The Lakeland venue introduces dishes including Scramble Bowls, Charleston Shrimp & Grits and Iron City Meatloaf.

The venue will also offer the brand’s Fried Chicken & Waffles, a dish featuring half a fried chicken on a Belgian waffle, garnished with powdered sugar and strawberry butter, accompanied by Metro Diner’s sweet and spicy sauce.

The new Metro Diner location is supervised by managing partner Steve Sullivan, a Lakeland native who has returned to his roots, embarking on this new venture in the complex where he began his career in the restaurant industry.

Sullivan said: “I’m excited to be serving my neighbours the hearty meals they love. I grew up in Lakeland, a community of traditional Southern values you can taste in every meal. Metro Diner’s comfort food fills a void in the south Lakeland dining scene.”

Founded in 1992 by the Davoli family, Metro Diner began in Jacksonville and has more than 60 locations nationwide.

In June 2024, Metro Diner launched a limited-time offer featuring s’mores-inspired seasonal pancakes, waffles and bread pudding.

The s’mores dishes were served all day and made with chocolate-infused batter.

The dishes were topped with chocolate syrup, marshmallow cream, Golden Grahams cereal, chocolate chips and powdered sugar.

In November 2024, Metro Diner introduced its all-American menu at the brand’s first location in Athens, Georgia. The 120-seater location is a free-standing diner located at 3075 Atlanta Highway.
