Chinese coffee chain Luckin Coffee has entered the Malaysian market with the opening of two new outlets in Kuala Lumpur.

The move is part of a strategic expansion with 200 store openings across the country up to 2028, as reported by World Coffee Portal.

The launch is a collaboration with franchise partner Hextar Industries. The two stores are now in a “soft opening” and testing phase to fine-tune operations and customer engagement.

The inaugural outlets are situated at Sunway Pyramid and Menara EcoWorld in Bukit Bintang City Centre, Kuala Lumpur. They are the first of five planned by the end of January 2025.

Luckin Coffee’s aggressive expansion strategy includes 20,000 stores in China and establishing a significant presence in Singapore, with 51 stores opened there since March 2023.

Hextar Industries subsidiary Global Aroma CEO Jeff Lim Chee Lip stated on the company’s website: “We are thrilled to begin our journey in Malaysia with this soft opening, offering customers a first look at Luckin Coffee’s unique coffee culture.

“This is an opportunity to engage with our customers and perfect our operations to meet local tastes and preferences.”

To celebrate the launch and build a customer base in its new market, the brand is offering beverages for RM2.99 ($0.67) when ordered through its app.

The partnership between Hextar Industries and Luckin Coffee Holding Singapore, announced in November 2024, has also granted Hextar’s subsidiary, Global Aroma (GASB) exclusive rights to develop and operate Luckin Coffee stores throughout Malaysia.

Luckin Coffee’s expansion there places it in direct competition with several rapidly growing domestic and international coffee chains such as ZUS Coffee, Gigi Coffee, Bask Bear and Indonesia’s Kopi Kenangan.

In September 2024, Luckin Coffee added the Oat Milk Series to its Singapore menu. It comprises Oat Milk Latte and Oat Shakerato.
