Fast-casual poke brand Pokeworks is poised to bolster its presence in the US state of Texas with a new restaurant in the city of Mission in May 2025.
The location is part of a partnership with a multi-unit franchisee who has also secured a site in South McAllen.
Pokeworks will then have 23 locations in the state.
The brand also plans to extend its franchise operations into major cities such as Dallas, Austin and Houston.
The upcoming Mission restaurant, situated at 301 N Shary Rd Ste. 270, is led by Agustin Guzman, a former Olympic swimmer and entrepreneur with more than two decades in the restaurant industry.
Guzman, who comes from Chiapas, Mexico, currently operates a Pokeworks’ location in McAllen and has plans to launch 30 more outlets across Texas and Mexico.
Pokeworks is extending its Texas operations with two new Houston locations, one downtown and another in the Westchase district. They will be the sixth and seventh Pokeworks establishments for franchisee Chris Lav.
The brand’s growth is fuelled by the support of multi-unit operators and the ongoing search for new franchise partners.
Since its inception in 2015, Pokeworks has been driven by a passion for Hawaiian poke and seeks to fill a niche in the mainland US market.
Offering customisable and healthy options such as poke bowls, burritos and salads, Pokeworks caters to a variety of dietary preferences, including vegan and gluten-free choices, while also providing convenient grab-and-go selections.
Guzman said: “Leaving my family and hometown at a young age to chase my dreams was a sacrifice, but it’s shaped who I am today. After rapidly climbing the ladder at each company I set my mind to, I wanted to do it on my own, and became a franchisee. Pokeworks aligns perfectly with my values, offering high-quality, health-conscious food in a fast-casual setting. I’m excited to bring this brand to Mission and continue growing with it.”
In July 2024, Pokeworks announced a collaboration with Botrista, a full craft beverage platform, to enhance its drink offerings throughout the US.
