US-based Korean fried chicken brand Bonchon has announced the expansion of its menu with the launch of Bulgogi Takeover.

The new culinary venture spotlights the traditional Korean dish, bulgogi, known for its marinated beef with a blend of smoky, sweet and savoury flavours.

Bonchon International research and development chef Jae Park stated: “Bulgogi has been on Bonchon’s menu since day one and our guests have loved pairing Bulgogi with other Korean favourites. We’re always excited to deliver new ways for our guests to enjoy our fresh, modern take on this classic Korean comfort food.”

Bulgogi Takeover includes dishes that infuse bulgogi into popular Korean staples and street foods, with prices from $13.99.

The menu features Cheesy Bulgogi Rice: bulgogi served over steamed rice, covered with mozzarella cheese and topped with scallions [spring onions] and spicy mayo.

Bulgogi Tteokbokki offers rice cakes simmered in a soy garlic sauce, topped with mozzarella cheese, scallions and onions.

Bulgogi Stir Fry Udon combines wheat noodles sautéed with bulgogi, soy garlic sauce, onions and red bell peppers and garnished with scallions and sesame seeds.

Bonchon CEO Suzie Tsai stated: “We’ve found that bulgogi is the perfect ingredient and flavour profile to innovate with. Its versatility and rich flavour profile adds decadence and heartiness to the dishes our guests love while staying true to the authentic flavours of Korean cuisine.”

Bonchon is seeking experienced hospitality entrepreneurs in the UK to take on the role of master franchisees and drive the brand’s national growth.
