The global food service industry noticed a 25.5% drop in IT hiring activity in September 2022 over the previous month, led by AmRest Holdings 25.85% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The food service industry’s overall hiring activity increased 2.01% when compared with August 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 0.53% share of the global food service industry’s hiring activity in September 2022, down 0.25% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of September 2022 were 3.8% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 10.09% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a share of 39.88% emerged as the top IT occupation in the food service hiring activity in September 2022, a 4.74% growth over the previous month. Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers came in second with a share of 28.86% in September 2022, down 8.86% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 12.02% share in September 2022, a decline of 71.01% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with an 11.62% share in September 2022 and a rise of 20.83% over August 2022.
Top five food service companies by recruitment activity in September 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 44.62% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global food service industry during September 2022 over August 2022.
AmRest Holdings posted 129 IT jobs in September 2022 and registered a rise of 158% over the previous month, followed by Aimbridge Hospitality with 61 jobs and a 17.57% decline. Compass Group with 33 IT jobs and HelloFresh with 31 jobs, recorded a 1000% growth and a 34.04% drop, respectively, while Starbucks recorded a 33.33% rise with 28 job postings during September 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in food service industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global food service IT hiring activity in September 2022 with a 60.92% share, which marked a 33.77% drop over the previous month.
Asia-Pacific stood next with 17.43%, registering a 58.18% month-on-month growth. Europe was the third leading region with a 15.43% share and a 10.47% drop over August 2022.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 4.61% and a month-on-month rise of 4.55%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 1.6%, registering a 166.67% increase over the previous month.
