Spanish carrier Air Europa Lineas Aereas (Air Europa) has awarded a six-year catering contract to two gategroup member companies Gate Gourmet and gateretail.
gategroup will provide inflight catering services through a global partnership with Air Europa starting 1 January 2020.
The contract covers a number of locations in Spain including Air Europa’s main hub operations in Madrid, and Latin-America.
It also covers short, medium and long-haul flights through culinary offerings on Business and Economy classes, as well as Duty Free services on long haul flights.
The airline caterer will offer Business meals and Buy on Board retail services on short and medium haul routes.

In addition, Air Europa will operate its main hub from gategroup‘s new facility at Coslada, Spain.
Kitchen at the 9,000m2 facility features culinary equipment such as mobile device cooking, and fermentation equipment enabling Gate Gourmet Madrid to produce meals to all classes of the airline’s guests.
Headquartered in Majorcan, Air Europa currently operates flights to and from destinations across Spain, Europe, Latin- America, the US, Africa and the Middle East.

In another development, gategroup has entered into a cooperation agreement with Airbus to introduce enable Big Data and analytics across all areas of an airline’s business.
The partnership will focus on three areas including a fully digital galley, the dynamic galley and optimized layout of passenger accommodation (LOPA) in a bid to enhance catering services for airlines.
Earlier this week, HNA Group announced that it will sell all outstanding shares of gategroup to Asian investment firm RRJ Capital.
