By GlobalDataAmazon India spokesperson said “Customers have been telling us for some time that they would like to order prepared meals on Amazon in addition to shopping for all other essentials.
“This is particularly relevant in present times as they stay home safe. We also recognise that local businesses need all the help they can get.”
Amazon India will offer the new service in Mahadevapura, Marathalli, Whitefield and Bellandur areas of Bengaluru, covering over 100 restaurants.
The service will enable customers to order prepared food from local restaurants and cloud kitchens, including Box8, Chai point, Chaayos, Faasos, Mad Over Donuts and restaurants from hotel chains such as Radisson and Marriott.
Currently, Amazon Food store is available to eligible customers on their Amazon app for ordering food online.
Amazon’s entry into the foodservice segment is also expected to help local restaurants that are shut down due to the national lockdown.
The company is stepping into the food delivery market when other top players such as Swiggy and Zomato are planning to lay off over 1,600 employees amid the Covid-19 outbreak.
