Berjaya Food International, the international division of Berjaya Food, has been awarded the rights to launch Starbucks stores in the Nordic countries of Iceland, Denmark and Finland.

The Malaysian food and beverage company is entering the Nordic coffee market for the first time.

The company aims to combine its culinary and operational expertise with Starbucks’ “quality, innovation2 and hospitality”, according to BusinessToday.

Berjaya Food’s portfolio includes Kenny Rogers Roasters, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts and Paris Baguette.

The company operates more than 400 Starbucks stores in Malaysia and Brunei, five Paris Baguette stores, 70 Kenny Rogers Roasters outlets and seven Sala stores in Malaysia, and 34 Jollibean locations in Singapore, TheEdge Malaysia reported.

In the first half of 2024, Berjaya Food International signed an agreement to operate Paris Baguette in Singapore, following the opening of its first store in the Philippines in April.

In Denmark, Berjaya Food International’s expansion will build on the existing store network established by Salling Group, the nation’s largest retailer.

Berjaya Food Berhad CEO Dato’ Sydney Quays said: “We are thrilled to announce our new venture of opening Starbucks Coffee stores in the Nordic region.

“We are excited to bring our expertise and passion for excellence to the vibrant Nordic coffee culture, introducing warm Malaysian hospitality and promising the exceptional Starbucks ‘third place’ experience cherished worldwide.”

The strategic partnership will enhance Starbucks’ presence in the European market.

Starbucks Europe, Middle East and Africa president Duncan Moir said: “We’re pleased to expand our presence in the Nordic markets alongside our trusted and long-term business partner, Berjaya Food Berhad, and contribute to the vibrant local coffee community in the region.”

In July 2024, Starbucks reported attributable net earnings of $1.05bn for the third quarter of the fiscal year 2024, a decrease of 7.6% compared with $1.14bn in the same quarter of 2023.
