US-based fast-casual restaurant chain Zaxbys has partnered with Berry AI to incorporate camera timers in its drive-throughs to improve operations across its complete brand.

Berry AI’s technology utilises cameras to track operational metrics such as service speed and line abandonment while maintaining guest privacy by collecting only anonymous data.

This information is critical to identify bottlenecks and enhance real-time decisions to improve customer service.

Zaxbys chief operations officer Sharlene Smith stated: “As our drive-through operations evolve and we look to the future for our brand, we are excited to leverage AI with camera timers in partnership with Berry AI.

“This state-of-the-art technology will help us better understand and improve the drive-through experience for our customers in a way traditional loop timers have been limited.”

Founded in 1990, Zaxbys operates 950 locations across 17 states. It serves Zalads, Chicken Fingerz, wings and signature sauces.

Berry AI CEO Eric Lam stated: “Restaurant team members have embraced the tech as it suggests actions based on real-time bottlenecks, allowing team members to focus on higher priority tasks.”

Smith added: “At Zaxbys, we’re always looking ahead, using the latest technology to make every experience better — whether you’re a guest enjoying your meal or a team member preparing it.”

AI cameras will support Zaxbys team members in visual tasks, allowing them to concentrate on enhancing the customer experience.

In March 2025, the chain brought back its Southern Fried Shrimp for a limited time.

The meal, priced at $10.29, features eight crispy butterflied shrimp with Zaxtail Sauce, Texas Toast, Crinkle Fries and a small drink.
