Fast-casual seafood restaurant chain Captain D’s has announced the addition of Maryland to its system and increased its presence in Texas.

The move comes after the brand signed a multi-unit franchise agreement in February 2025 to launch 20 new restaurants across the UK as part of its international growth strategy.

The Maryland development group, led by Shahid Raza and Ahmed Fawad, will open five new restaurants in Prince George County in the Baltimore metro area up to 2031.

Maryland is Captain D’s 24th US state, as it continues to penetrate the Northeast region of the country.

Raza and Fawad are an experienced team and operate other restaurant franchises across New York, Maryland and Virginia Beach.

In Texas, entrepreneurs Dave Peters, Brian Clemens and Ruben Cardenas have signed agreements to develop three Captain D’s locations around San Antonio.

The first is expected to open near Lackland Air Force Base in early 2026, building on the brand’s “strong” presence in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and signifying further growth within the Lone Star State.

Captain D’s chief development officer Brad Reed said: “We are thrilled to kick off 2025 with some amazing new partners who are excited to bring Captain D’s to communities in Maryland and San Antonio. This expansion into new territories shows our commitment to thoughtful, strategic growth up the eastern seaboard and west of the Mississippi.”

“We provide our owners with great flexibility in choosing layouts and locations that, paired with our versatile seafood and chicken menu, ensure our operators’ success.”

The development agreements will utilise Captain D’s flexible restaurant prototypes to adapt to varying real estate opportunities and market needs.

These include options for in-line or end-cap [placed at ends of aisles] locations, traditional conversions and new builds, allowing for tailored approaches to each market.
