US-based fast-casual seafood restaurant chain Captain D’s has finalised a multi-unit franchise agreement to launch 20 new restaurants across the UK as part of its international growth strategy.

The brand’s first European venture is set to begin with an inaugural location in the London area in 2025.

This is Captain D’s second international development agreement, following its Canadian expansion plans in Toronto.

The entry to Europe is a key step in Captain D’s ambition to establish itself as a global brand, offering its international franchise partners the necessary support for long-term prosperity.

Captain D’s CEO Phil Greifeld said: “We are highly enthused to bring our unique brand to the United Kingdom. Captain D’s will bring our craveable seafood to the guests in the UK.

“Entering the UK with experienced restaurant operators underscores our commitment to our thoughtful international growth. This is just the beginning of our expansion of Captain D’s quality seafood and hospitality to seafood lovers around the world.”

Captain D’s presents an adaptable restaurant design that caters to a range of real estate options and market demands.

The restaurant chain offers a versatile menu featuring seafood and chicken.

Captain D’s senior vice-president of international operations and development Hair Parra said: “Our goal is not only to expand but to ensure we’re building something sustainable and impactful.

“The UK is a key market with immense potential, and by working closely with our master franchisees, we’re confident that we’ll deliver exceptional results. This agreement is a testament to Captain D’s readiness to bring its proven model to the global stage.”

Captain D’s has 530 outlets across 23 US states and claims to lead the fast-casual seafood segment, holding the title of top seafood franchise based on average unit volume.

The company is seeking master franchisees and multi-unit operators to fuel its swift global growth, targeting Canada, the Caribbean, Central and Latin America, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore and Spain.

In May 2024, Captain D’s broadened its domestic footprint with a new franchise development agreement for 26 stores.

The deal was signed with seasoned franchise operators Keith Johnson and Kevin Davis of Amazing Seafood, aiming to bolster the brand’s presence in strategic American markets such as St Louis, Indianapolis and North Carolina.
