Fast-casual sandwich chain Jersey Mike’s has appointed industry veteran Charlie Morrison as chief executive officer (CEO), effective 28 April 2025.

Morrison’s extensive experience spans over three decades, including a transformative tenure as chairman and CEO of Wingstop.

His leadership is expected to propel Jersey Mike’s growth, both in the US and internationally, while enhancing the company’s technological and digital capabilities.

With a background that includes leading Wingstop’s expansion from under 500 stores to over 2,000 locations across more than ten countries, Morrison’s expertise in scaling operations and navigating successful initial public offerings is anticipated to be helpful for Jersey Mike’s future strategies.

His recent role as CEO of Salad and Go, along with previous leadership positions at Pizza Inn, Pizza Hut, Steak and Ale, and Boston Market, has equipped him with a well-rounded perspective on the fast-casual dining sector.

Morrison said: “Jersey Mike’s is a unique brand with a rich history, loyal customer base and authentic culture which Peter and his talented team have cultivated over the past five decades. I have spent my career building and innovating at leading franchised brands, and what Peter has created at Jersey Mike’s is nothing short of extraordinary.”

Morrison will be succeeding Peter Cancro, who is stepping down from the CEO role after 50 years since acquiring the company’s first location in 1975.

Cancro will continue to serve as chairman of the Jersey Mike’s board of directors and retain a minority share.

Nigel Travis has been named lead director while Morrison will also join the board of directors.

Cancro said: “In Charlie, we have found the ideal next CEO for Jersey Mike’s, and I look forward to him propelling our business even further.

“Having led Wingstop through a monumental period of growth and a successful IPO, he knows what it takes to lead a first-of-its-kind, category-defining brand, and I am confident he will bring that same energy and vision to Jersey Mike’s. Importantly, he also shares our values and commitment to giving to the communities we serve.”

Established in 1956 as Mike’s Subs with one location in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, Jersey Mike’s now operates in more than 3,000 locations in the US and Canada.

Last year, Jersey Mike’s partnered with Blackstone to bolster its global expansion and to support ongoing investments in technology and digital transformation.
