Singaporean restaurateur Ellen Chew’s Chinese and Southeast Asian fusion concept Shan Shui Social is opening in April 2025 in central London, more than four years after the project was initially announced, as reported by The Caterer.

Shan Shui Social, located in Victoria, will be the third Shan Shui restaurant in the UK, following existing sites at Heathrow Terminal 2 and Bicester Village.

The new 74-cover venue will feature a diverse cocktail menu alongside a selection of Cantonese dim sum, roast meats and Sichuan dishes.

Designed by studio Macaulay Sinclair, the restaurant will span two floors and incorporate design elements inspired by 1920s Shanghai.

The opening follows Chew’s launch of Singapulah, a concept that collaborates closely with Singaporean suppliers, in London’s Chinatown in 2024,

Chew stated: “Our existing sites for Shan Shui, at Heathrow Terminal 2 and Bicester Village, have both successfully catered to the demands of tourists, travellers and shoppers. With Shan Shui Social, we can serve city dwellers and theatre-goers and appeal to the working crowd.

“Sustainability is extremely important to us. The kitchen at Shan Shui Social will be fully electric to reduce carbon emissions and provide a safe and comfortable environment for our staff. We also aim to source the best ingredients from local producers.”

Chew first opened Rasa Sayang, a Malaysian-Singaporean eatery in London’s Chinatown.

Since then, her portfolio has expanded to include Mrs Chew’s Chinese Kitchen in Stratford and Birmingham, the Shan Shui brand and Singapulah.

She is also involved in partnerships with Arôme Bakery, which has locations in Covent Garden and Duke Street, and with Lobos Tapas in Soho and London Bridge.
