European trade fair institution Fira de Barcelona has renewed its catering services contract with Areas, a global travel and leisure catering brand of Elior Group.

The contract renewal strengthens the partnership between the two companies. For Fira de Barcelona, Areas has managed more than 1,000 professional trade fairs and conventions, including the Mobile World Congress.

Under the contract, which covers 4,000m² in the Montjuïc and Gran Vía exhibition centres, Areas will manage 16 points of sale for Fira de Barcelona and the catering for the Palau de Congressos in Barcelona.

The contract has a base period performance of three years and comes with options to extend it to five years.

“With this new contract, we are proposing a revamped catering solution that is designed to meet the specific requirements of the exhibition centre sector.”

Areas Spain, Portugal and Latin America CEO Oscar Vela said: “We value the bond of trust that we have forged with the teams of Fira de Barcelona over the past 12 years.

“With this new contract, we are proposing a revamped catering solution that is designed to meet the specific requirements of the exhibition centre sector and which will enable us to reinvent the visitor and exhibitor experience.”

Areas has proposed seven catering concepts comprising gastronomic restaurants, catering services and fast-food brands.

At the exhibition centres, visitors can treat themselves at Areas’ own takeaway brand Deli&Cia, La Pausa for in-season offerings, the Briciole high-end bakery; a Caffriccio café; the Italian Pizza’n Co chain; the Buena Pinta beer cellar, and the Saboramar gastronomic restaurant.

In addition, Areas’ dedicated catering services brand Antara will also cater for Palau de Congressos visitors and exhibitors.

Currently, Areas operates more than 2,000 points of sale in 14 countries, throughout Europe as well as in the US, Mexico and Chile.
