Flynn Group, a US franchisee operator, has expanded its international presence by acquiring Wendco (NZ), the exclusive franchisee of the Wendy’s brand in New Zealand.
The Lendich family, which has been at the helm of Wendy’s New Zealand since 1988, has successfully established 20 restaurants across the country.
Flynn plans to collaborate closely with The Wendy’s Company’s team to foster growth and development.
It will retain all 500 of Wendy’s New Zealand’s employees and maintain relationships with its current partners and suppliers.
The group has also expressed its intention to keep the existing operations and support teams intact.
The latest acquisition represents Flynn’s third international venture between 2023 and 2004, following their initial international expansion in June 2023 with the acquisition of the master franchise licence for Pizza Hut in Australia.

By GlobalDataIn August 2023, the company bolstered its presence in the Australian market by entering into a master franchise agreement with Wendy’s to develop 200 restaurants up to 2032.
In conjunction with the acquisition, Flynn Group has appointed Phil Reed as president of its Australia and New Zealand operations.
Flynn Group chief operating officer Ron Bellamy said: “The acquisition of Wendy’s New Zealand represented a compelling opportunity to continue our growth ambitions internationally and to expand our strong partnership with the much-loved Wendy’s brand.
“Wendy’s New Zealand has a proud 35-year track record of delighting customers, and we are honoured to carry that tradition forward.
“Our immediate priority will be to collaborate with the existing team to determine how we can best leverage our scale and capabilities to build on their success as we enter this next Wendco.”
