
US provider of culinary and support services across various US sectors Forefront has announced a partnership with Leanpath to deploy AI-enabled food waste management solutions in its kitchens.
The collaboration addresses food waste within the foodservice industry by utilising Leanpath’s technology at four Forefront client sites.
Forefront culinary and nutrition services president Rob Pasos stated: “Like most culinary-focused companies, Forefront has been actively searching for solutions to counter the rising cost of food without passing these increases on to those we serve and partner with. Leanpath was an obvious choice to help us develop a waste management solution through the use of technology and better practices.”
The integration of Leanpath’s AI-driven technology provides Forefront’s culinary teams with actionable insights into the causes of food waste.
These insights are then used to recommend operational changes that can lead to waste reduction, cost savings and improved sustainability practices.
The use of AI to manage food waste is a strategic move by Forefront, aligning with its commitment to customise foodservice programmes that feature regionally inspired menus and locally sourced ingredients.
Food waste remains a pressing global concern, with one-third of all food produced being lost or wasted.
The foodservice sector contributes significantly to the problem; Leanpath’s data indicates that between 5% and 15% of food purchases in commercial kitchens end up as waste, representing a substantial financial loss and negatively impacting the environment.
