Fast-casual restaurant chain Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers has officially opened its new training and innovation centre in Wichita, Kansas.

Located at 3020 N Cypress, Ste 200, the 23,000ft² facility will be used by the brand to provide training for franchisees and managers, and drive menu innovation.

The centre is equipped with advanced technology and a simulated restaurant environment for virtual training sessions, on-site product testing and consumer focus groups.

The new centre will support the brand’s 533 restaurants across 36 states and the additional 130 restaurants in development.

It will serve as a hub for creating 200 training videos and podcasts annually, benefiting 17,000 team members across the US.

The facility will cater to the training needs of current as well as prospective franchisees. It will also host events such as 70 potential franchisee visits per year, four fly-in conferences for 130 multi-unit managers and in-person training for 120 managers annually.

Freddy’s CEO Chris Dull said: “We’re thrilled to open the doors to our training and innovation centre, with a state-of-the-art design built to represent the future of the Freddy’s franchise

“By equipping our franchise owners and managers with the latest tools and training, we are investing in the continued success of our entire franchise system, and ensuring we maintain our commitment to quality and excellence in every location.

“Not only is Wichita the birthplace of the Freddy’s brand, but it was the home of our namesake, Freddy Simon. Wichita has done so much good for Freddy’s, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to continue to invest in our hometown.”

In June 2024, Freddy’s revealed its plan to expand in Houston, Texas through a 20-unit development agreement.

The expansion is being spearheaded by franchise group Lone Star Custard, led by siblings John, Nick and Joe DePinto.
