US-based quick-service restaurant chain Jack in the Box has signed a new development agreement to open five units in Detroit, Michigan.

The move is part of the company’s strategy to expand its footprint in the Midwest, building on existing plans for five more locations in West Michigan up to 2029 with another franchise partner, with the first location in Battle Creek.

Jack in the Box’s ongoing Midwest expansion strategy includes two recently launched CloudKitchens in downtown Chicago, Illinois.

Jack in the Box vice-president of franchise development Van Ingram said: “We are delighted to welcome Maan Almansour and Andi Kareem to our growing franchise family in Michigan.

“Their passion for the restaurant industry and deep understanding of the Detroit market make them ideal partners to bring our brand to this vibrant city.”

Jack in the Box is also planning further growth within the wider Chicagoland area.

The firm plans eight company-operated units and has secured twelve commitments from a new franchisee.

Jack in the Box caters to a variety of dining preferences with burgers, tacos, chicken sandwiches, milkshakes, all-day breakfasts and late-night snacks.

The upcoming Detroit locations will feature dine-in, drive-through and mobile ordering facilities.

Ingram added: “With approximately 2,200 locations nationwide and the recent success from our new market openings in Salt Lake City and Louisville, we’ve recognised how much pent-up demand Jack in the Box has across the country.

“We’re an iconic franchise brand with whitespace availability, flexible prototypes and commitment to growing in the Midwest.”

In November 2024, Jack in the Box expanded its smashed-patty burger line with the introduction of the Sourdough Smashed Jack.
