Just Eat has become the first online delivery company to start displaying the latest Food Standards Agency (FSA) hygiene rating of all UK restaurants listed on its platform.
This initiative will allow customers to directly access independent data on hygiene standards instantly in-app and online for more than 30,000 restaurants and takeaways.
The rollout follows a trial of food hygiene ratings in over 600 restaurants in Northern Ireland earlier this year.
In December 2018, the company announced plans to include the official FSA food hygiene rating of each of its UK restaurant partners.
The online delivery service allows customers to inform their choice by reading reviews and ratings of restaurants on the platform from people in their local area.
Customers can also rate restaurants across food quality, restaurant service and delivery time, as well as write a detailed review on the platform.

By GlobalDataFSA chairman Heather Hancock said: “I am pleased to see Just Eat taking the lead by making this positive step to publish the food hygiene ratings for businesses on their website. Having this transparency allows consumers to consider food safety when choosing to order food online and will help drive up standards across the sector. I encourage others in this sector to follow suit.”
Just Eat UK managing director Graham Corfield said: “We spoke to customers about the information they want before choosing their takeaway and their feedback was clear.
“They want easy access to independent information about the hygiene standards of their local restaurants and we’ve worked hard to make that a reality.
“This will have the dual benefit of giving customers all the information they want, while also incentivising restaurants to invest in food safety and ultimately drive standards up across the whole industry, even when food isn’t being ordered via us.”
In February this year, Just Eat invested £1m, in collaboration with global food safety consultant NSF, to improve food hygiene and safety standards in the UK takeaway sector.
The company already offers free food hygiene and safety training to restaurants that sign up to the Just Eat platform.
