American restaurant brand Layne’s Chicken Fingers has unveiled a new restaurant prototype aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and fostering stronger community ties.

The launch is the brand’s first original build and the culmination of more than two years of development.

The newly designed facility spans 2,400 ft², a downsize from the previous 3,000ft², and achieves a 15 to 20% cost reduction.

The smaller footprint not only lowers construction and operational costs but also significantly reduces labour expenses.

A distinctive element of the prototype is the “Layne’s Wall” – a space for celebrating the local community of each restaurant.

The new design optimises the restaurant layout and operations to allow franchisees to maintain high service standards with fewer staff members.

The result is a reduction in unnecessary labour hours, leading to a more sustainable and economically viable business model.

Layne’s Chicken Fingers CEO Garrett Reed said: “The prototype is a culmination of all of our best practices, put it into one package. Everything was taken into account, even down to the signage. It took a good two years to create this prototype.”

“This is our masterpiece. We started with a new prototype, knowing it wasn’t perfect. As we built it, we identified areas for improvement. We made several changes, refining each detail, including the type of roof we used. Every aspect has been carefully reworked over the last two years to achieve perfection.”

By integrating cost-saving measures with a focus on community engagement, Layne’s Chicken Fingers stated that it has crafted a blueprint to redefine the fast-casual dining landscape.

Layne’s Chicken Fingers chief operating officer Samir Wattar said: “We’ve streamlined everything to ensure maximum efficiency, from the walk-in cooler to the POS [point-of-service] system.

“You don’t have to walk around the building to go to the walk-in cooler or the walk-in freezer. Everything is right there in one step.”

“It’s cheaper to build and operate. With less space to manage, franchisees will need fewer employees, further reducing labour costs.”

In May 2023, Layne’s Chicken Fingers announced plans to expand its presence with 15 new locations in South Florida as part of its growth strategy.
