Lunchbox, a provider of enterprise restaurant catering and off-premise technology, has appointed James Walker as its new CEO from March 2025.

Walker has served on Lunchbox’s board of directors for the previous year.

He has 30 years of experience in the quick-service and casual dining industry and has held senior positions at Subway, Nathan’s Famous and Cinnabon.

Walker said: “Restaurants deserve technology that works for them, not against them. My focus is on scaling our solutions to meet the evolving needs of enterprise brands, ensuring they have the tools to compete and succeed in today’s digital-first landscape.”

As part of the leadership transition, Walker and Lunchbox executive chairman Nabeel Alamgir will work as strategic partners to guide Lunchbox through its next stage of development.

Walker will focus on growth and execution, while Alamgir will concentrate on AI and automation.

Lunchbox has secured an undisclosed sum in a new funding round led by Shift4.

With this capital investment, it plans to accelerate product development and enhance enterprise capabilities.

As part of the strategic partnership, Shift4 will prioritise Lunchbox as the enterprise solution for its SkyTab POS [point of sale] system.

Alamgir stated: “We’re charting a bold new course for restaurant technology. With James at the helm, Shift4’s backing and our relentless focus on innovation, we’re not just building for today — we’re designing for tomorrow’s restaurant operators.”

In October 2020, Lunchbox raised $20m in a Series A funding round led by technology investment platform Coatue to accelerate its growth.

Lunchbox’s product suite comprises app and web ordering, catering, order aggregation, guest engagement, marketing and an open API platform, and serves 5,000 restaurant locations across the US.
