Japanese fast-casual restaurant chain Pepper Lunch has announced its expansion into the US state of Hawaii with three lease agreements.
The expansion is led by local entrepreneurs Sean and Nari Uezu through their company NIKU.
NIKU, which also operates the Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen franchise in Hawaii, plans to introduce the first Hawaiian Pepper Lunch in the fourth quarter of 2025 at Moanalua Shopping Centre.
This will be followed by openings at the Hyatt Centric Waikiki on Kuhio Avenue and a site on Kapahulu Avenue by late 2026.
The establishments are part of a broader strategy to open ten Pepper Lunch restaurants across the Hawaiian islands.
NIKU co-owner Sean Uezu stated: “Our passion for Pepper Lunch stems from a memorable meal we experienced in Kyoto. The sizzling iron plate, fresh ingredients and vibrant sights and sounds captivated us instantly. We can’t wait to offer that same energising dining experience to both residents and visitors across the 50th State.”
Founded in 1994 in Japan, the brand is located in more than 500 locations across 17 countries.
Pepper Lunch CEO Troy Hooper added: “The power of the Pepper Lunch concept is only as strong as the commitment of our partners. Sean and Nari are first-class owner/operators who align seamlessly with our mission to bring joy and connection through our sizzling dining experience.”
In January 2025, Pepper Lunch announced a major expansion into the US Pacific Northwest through a development agreement to bring its brand to Oregon.
The plan features five new locations across the state. The agreement was signed with Peter T Ng, a local developer and owner of Seventh and Monroe.
