Potbelly has opened its first shop at the Pentagon in a significant expansion of its presence within military installations and US Department of Defense facilities.
The move is part of Potbelly’s strategy to extend its brand to the military community, offering its range of oven-toasted sandwiches, salads, shakes and cookies.
As well as the Pentagon location, Potbelly is continuing to implement its plans to develop outlets at military installations. The first opened in April 2024 at the Fort Liberty Exchange food court, within one of the largest such installations in the world. with two additional sites set to open there by the end of the year
Potbelly CEO and president Bob Wright said: “We are honoured to open our new Potbelly shop at the Pentagon.
“We are proud to bring Potbelly to the brave men and women who serve our country, and we look forward to offering them a convenient opportunity to enjoy all of the fresh and delicious food Potbelly is known for – from oven-toasted sandwiches and signature salads to hand-dipped shakes and fresh-baked cookies.”
A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for the Pentagon store on 16 July 2024.

Franchisee Shakti Patel, an experienced Potbelly operator on the East Coast, will own and operate all three Fort Liberty restaurants.

“I look forward to opening the doors to two more shops on the base in the months ahead.”
These initiatives are part of Potbelly’s accelerated growth strategy, aiming for a long-term goal of opening 2,000 shops across US neighbourhoods.
In March, the chain finalised four multi-unit development agreements with current franchisees to further expand its footprint in the US.
