Restaurant operator sbe has announced the launch of MXO, a new Mexican steakhouse in Los Angeles, California, US.

The venture is a collaboration with chef Wes Avila and restaurateur Giancarlo Pagani.

MXO emerges from sbe’s chairman and CEO Sam Nazarian’s Disruptive Restaurant Group, aiming to offer a unique dining experience centred around a wood-fired grill.

Spanning 4,960ft², MXO can seat 150 diners or accommodate 292 guests for standing events.

The establishment features a main bar and private dining rooms for up to 22 individuals.

MXO’s culinary offerings highlight the wood-fired grill, with dishes such as Whole Grilled Prawns with Vale hot sauce, and The Cowboy, featuring a Bone-in Ribeye.

The menu also includes Grilled Cabbage Caesar and Seasonal Tlayuda, alongside Roasted Squash Mole adorned with Oaxaca Cheese and pickled onion.

Chef Avila’s signature Mexican dishes, including Birria Beef Hammer and Lobster Ceviche with Bruja sauce, complement the wood-fired grilled selections.

MXO’s beverage menu features Mexican-inspired cocktails such as the MXO Negroni and Pura Candela, blending traditional flavours with a modern twist.

sbe founder and CEO Sam Nazarian said: “It has been such an honour to work closely with Wes Avila over the past year and we are thrilled to finally be able to bring our vision to life with the opening of MXO, alongside partners Marc Anthony and Giancarlo Pagani.

“Our Mexican Steakhouse is the result of chef Avila’s passion and creativity and the restaurant truly embodies the history and soul of this extraordinary cuisine.

“MXO is our first project together and I cannot wait to continue building our longstanding partnership.

“This restaurant marks the first of many upcoming sbe restaurant and nightlife openings in Los Angeles this year, and we are excited to revitalise the hospitality sector in the city and provide locals and visitors alike, new inspiring options built on sbe’s unparalleled service and vision.”

In October 2023, sbe obtained a $25m credit facility from Feenix Venture Partners to grow its US footprint.
