Texas-based doughnut and kolache brand Shipley Do-Nuts has opened its first outlet in North Carolina in Concord, just north of the city of Charlotte.
The new outlet, located at 31 Optical Ct NW, is part of the brand’s strategic expansion into the Tar Heel State.
According to a development agreement signed in 2023, three locations are planned for the Charlotte area and one for Concord.
The Concord store is locally owned by John and Lillian Brijeski.
They have introduced a “hot glazed donut guarantee” ensuring customers can enjoy warm glazed doughnuts from 5am to 11am daily.
Lillian Brijeski said: “It’s a big responsibility to introduce a legacy brand to a new state, but we are confident Shipley’s variety of sweet and savoury options will be a big hit throughout our community.
“Whether it’s fresh, warm doughnuts or signature savoury kolaches, we look forward to serving a menu that deliciously meets breakfast and snacktime needs.”
Founded in 1936 in Houston, Shipley offers more than sixty doughnut varieties crafted daily.
Among these is the brand’s signature plain glazed doughnut cut into the unique Shipley hexagon shape.
The menu also features filled, iced, and cake doughnuts, bear claws and coffee.
The Shipley brand also offers a range of kolaches – pastries with a range of fillings.
The Concord location will offer house-made options such as Bacon, Egg & Cheese, Ham & Cheese, and Sausage, Jalapeno & Cheese.
Shipley Do-Nuts CEO Flynn Dekker said: “Our expansion into North Carolina is a strategic step in our brand’s growth, allowing us to bring our signature doughnuts to a new community while strengthening our national presence.
“This opening officially brings our brand’s footprint to 13 states — a baker’s dozen — and we know John, Lillian and their team will be making life delicious for North Carolina residents who are experiencing Shipley for the first time.”
With ambitions to enlarge its presence in the state, Shipley has outlined plans for five more locations near Charlotte and is seeking franchisees across Raleigh-Durham, Greensboro and Winston-Salem.
It has scheduled franchisee discovery days in Raleigh and Charlotte respectively on 22 April and 24 April 2025.
