UK-based foodservice company SSP Group has been awarded a seven-year contract extension at the London City Airport.

Under the contract, SSP Group will oversee and open new food and beverage (F&B) concepts at the airport.

The contract was awarded to the foodservice company as part of a £12m ($15.3m) upgrade of the airport’s Departure Lounge, which included the refurbishment of the F&B space.

London City Airport CEO Robert Sinclair said: “This new investment in food & beverage outlets at London City Airport by SSP will be welcomed by our passengers and we can’t wait for our passengers to experience the new and improved food offerings at the airport, especially the London-focused food and drink brands.”

As part of this expansion, SSP will launch its brand, Hithes, at the airport.

Hithes’ menu offerings include the ‘City Boys’ all-day breakfast, ‘Notting Hill’ jerk chicken, and ‘the best of Brick Lane’ chicken tikka masala.

The restaurant concept will also offer local beers, spirits and wines.

The catering company Juniper & Co will also offer British and speciality food items, with a focus on local provenance throughout.

Within the next few months, fresh-to-go concept Soul & Grain will also offer vegetarian and vegan options to travellers.

Aligning with SSP’s sustainability commitments, Soul & Grain will source ingredients from local suppliers and use recyclable packaging wherever possible.

SSP UK & Ireland CEO Kari Daniels said: “SSP has a long-standing relationship with London City Airport, spanning 20 years. We’re delighted to be bringing new concepts to London City passengers and have worked in close partnership with the airport to deliver a truly local London experience.

“These concepts will give guests an opportunity to sample some of the most exciting foods from across the capital.”
