Food and drink travel operator SSP Group has opened the Berlin-based gastro start-up Haferkater at Frankfurt central station.
The new opening was celebrated with German railway company Deutsche Bahn’s subsidiary DB Station&Service.
Located in the pavilion close to platform 5 at the station, the new store offers cooked porridge made using floured oats, water and salt.
Haferkater offers a range of sweet and savoury toppings such as almonds, cashews, cedar seeds, maple syrup, cream cheese, pear, honey, walnuts and thyme with the porridge.
Additionally, the café features items such as salads, quinoa bowls, wraps and pastries on its menu. It also offers coffees made roasted beans.
SSP business development and properties director Jan Kamp said: “The founders of Haferkater have established this traditional Scottish dish as a popular breakfast alternative.
“This brand is a perfect complement to the gastronomic offer here in Frankfurt and also to the SSP portfolio. Haferkater is one of the latest additions to our brand mix and is yet another example of how we are constantly developing our business.”
Haferkater was started by three founders and currently operates six stores in Germany.
The new store expands the number of outlets operated by SSP at Frankfurt central station to seven. The group also plans to open further Haferkater stores at other locations.
In March this year, SSP Germany extended its partnership with DB Station&Service to expand its portfolio across Frankfurt, Hamburg, Hannover and Cologne.
