Turkish restaurant group BNS Food has reported a data breach within its Japanese food chain SushiCo.
The data breach was reported on 28 February 2025, according to Turkiye Today.
The company discovered that there had been unauthorised access to its systems, leading to the exposure of personal data belonging to thousands of customers, including their names, contact details and order histories.
In a statement sent to customers, SushiCo gave assurances that credit card details are not stored within its systems and that there is therefore no risk of direct financial loss from the breach.
The company has taken swift action to address the security vulnerabilities exposed by the incident.
Cybersecurity experts have conducted a thorough investigation, and additional preventive measures have been implemented to fortify the company’s digital defences.
SushiCo has issued a warning to its customers, urging them to be alert to potential fraud attempts. The company has advised customers to exercise caution when receiving suspicious emails, SMS messages or phone calls that may be related to the breach.
A dedicated support hotline has been established to assist customers with further inquiries or concerns they may have after the incident.
In a recent development in Türkiye, Yum! Brands has terminated its franchise agreements with IS Gida, a subsidiary of IS Holding. IS GIDA operates all KFC and Pizza Hut outlets in the country.
The decision, prompted by the operator’s failure to meet Yum! Brands’ required standards, will lead to the temporary closure of 283 KFC and 254 Pizza Hut restaurants nationwide.
