American fast-casual restaurant brand Sweetgreen has announced the opening of its first location in Ohio, situated in the city of Columbus.

Located at 700 North High Street, the new 3,605ft² restaurant can seat 46 customers.

It showcases an open kitchen design, allowing customers to observe the preparation of scratch-made food.

The establishment’s full menu, featuring salads, warm bowls, protein plates and sides, is available for dine-in, delivery or carry-out.

The venue will serve customers offerings such as the Harvest Bowl and Crispy Rice Bowl, as well as the newly introduced Caramelised Garlic Steak.

In February 2024, the brand announced that it was testing the new Caramelised Garlic Steak at 22 participating locations in Boston, Massachusetts.

The limited-edition menu item is part of a broader offering that includes the Steakhouse Chopped Bowl and Kale Caesar Steak Salad, all featuring the new protein.

Sweetgreen’s menu is known for its customisability, offering a wide range of possible flavour combinations from a selection of fresh ingredients and signature dressings.

Sweetgreen co-founder and CEO Jonathan Neman said: “We can’t wait to open the doors at our flagship Ohio restaurant in this lively Columbus neighbourhood.

“With local ingredients sourced from across the midwest, we’re excited to bring the Sweetgreen flavour to Columbus’ iconic food scene. It’s been a long time coming, and we are so grateful to the Columbus community for embracing us with open arms.”

In line with its tradition of community engagement, Sweetgreen has partnered with the Mid-Ohio Food Collective for the Columbus opening.

The collaboration aims to address food insecurity in Central Ohio, with Sweetgreen pledging to donate a meal to the Mid-Ohio Kitchen at the Reeb Center for every meal sold on the opening day on 4 September.

In January 2024, the company expanded into the Seattle area with its first location in The Village at Totem Lake in Kirkland, Washington.

The new venue spans 2,315ft² and can accommodate 20 diners inside, with additional seating for 16 on the patio. Dining options include in-house serving, pick-up and delivery services.

Since its inception in 2007 with a 560ft² space, Sweetgreen has expanded to more than 230 locations across the US.
