American café chain The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf has announced plans to launch 25 new stores in India by the end of the financial year 2025 (FY25).
The expansion is part of a broader strategy to establish 250 locations across the country by 2029, with the support of new master franchisee Ekaagra Ostalaritza.
The plan comes in response to India’s increasing discretionary spending, the rise of hybrid and remote work, and a shift in consumer preferences towards artisanal and speciality coffees.
According to a study by the Coffee Board of India, part of the government’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry, 70% of non-coffee consumers are now open to trying coffee in cafés.
Ekaagra Ostalaritza’s chief strategy officer Prashant Chauhan told ETHospitalityWorld: “Our unwavering focus on quality is a key differentiator and a strong USP. Coupled with our offering of hot, freshly prepared food alongside your favourite coffee and tea, we’re set to elevate the café experience.”
The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, founded in 1963 in Southern California, operates 1,200 locations across 24 countries.
In February 2025, the brand appointed Tara Hinkle as president and head of Americas.
She has 20 years of experience in franchising and strategic operational planning.
Commenting on her appointment, Hinkle stated: “I am honoured to step into the role of president and head of Americas at The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf and lead this incredible team.
“My goal is to drive franchise growth and expand our market reach by empowering our talented brew crew to exceed guest expectations. I look forward to this journey as we continue sharing our passion for exceptional coffee and tea with the world.”
