UK-based hospitality company Urban Pubs & Bars (UPB) has bought 11 pub sites out of administration from the Antic hospitality group.

The sites, located across London, were part of a larger portfolio of 13 Antic pubs and bars that faced financial difficulties during the Covid-19 pandemic.

UPB’s acquisition includes eight trading leasehold businesses and three vacant freehold sites.

The leasehold pubs are the Antelope, Balham Bowls Club, the Clapton Hart, the East Dulwich Tavern, the Elephant & Castle, Hagen & Hyde, the Red Lion and the Sun of Camberwell.

The freehold sites are the Volunteer, the Mews and Linman & Turner.

The Dogstar in Brixton, Tooting Tram and Social and Coopers in Crystal Palace were not part of the deal. These sites will continue to operate while administrators engage with potential buyers.

With the acquisition, UPB, which already owns 44 pubs, bars and restaurants throughout London, will immediately take over the management of the new sites.

UPB’s locations include the Wheatsheaf in Tooting and the Victory in Waterloo. The company’s recent opening of the Red Setter in Battersea is a highlight of its expanding presence.

The latest acquisition brings UPB’s total number of trading sites to 52.

Interpath Advisory joint administrator Steve Absolom said: “This eclectic group of popular pubs and bars has traded well since our appointment just over seven weeks ago and buyer interest has been extremely strong.

“We are delighted that we have been able to secure this transaction with UPB and importantly safeguard the jobs for their loyal and hard-working employees.”
