Vietnamese restaurant brand Golden Gate has acquired The Coffee House, a coffee chain based in Ho Chi Minh City, from retail group Seedcom.

The development, first reported by DealStreetAsia, follows a resolution passed by Golden Gate’s board of directors on 24 January 2025, indicating the purchase of an unnamed food and beverage operator in the last quarter of 2024.

Once regarded as one of Vietnam’s rapidly expanding coffee chains, World Coffee Portal has reported challenges for The Coffee House in maintaining profitability post-pandemic.

In 2024, the brand made the significant decision to close more than a third of its outlets, reducing its footprint from 150 stores at the end of 2023 to just 93.

Despite these closures, The Coffee House maintains a substantial presence in Vietnam’s two largest cities, with 51 outlets in Ho Chi Minh City and 31 in Hanoi.

All locations within the Can Tho and Da Nang regions were shut down in the latter half of 2024 as part of a strategic move to optimise costs and improve sales performance at higher footfall locations, addressing the need for financial efficiency and targeted market penetration.

The acquisition by Golden Gate could provide The Coffee House with access to enhanced operational capabilities and financial backing.

For Golden Gate, the move is an opportunity to establish itself within Vietnam’s thriving branded coffee shop sector.

Established in 2005, Golden Gate is among Vietnam’s foremost food and beverage groups with 500 restaurants under its umbrella across 22 distinct brands.

Its portfolio includes popular dining concepts such as the Gogi House and Kichi-Kichi hotpot and BBQ chains, the Yu Tang bubble tea chain and café operator The Coffee Inn.
