
Blinkit, the quick-commerce arm of Indian food delivery platform Zomato, has launched Bistro, a new app dedicated to delivering snacks, meals and beverages within ten minutes.
The move is seen as a direct challenge to Zepto’s recently unveiled Zepto Cafe and marks Zomato’s second venture into the instant food and grocery delivery market.
Blinkit’s Bistro aims to provide a swift delivery service for a range of ready-to-eat food items such as samosas, sandwiches, coffees and pastries.
Bistro mirrors its competitors, offering a curated selection of snacks, drinks and meals from key kitchen locations.
The app is currently in a pilot phase, available only in areas of Gurugram, a city in the Indian state of Haryana, as reported by The Times of India.
The app is positioned to compete with similar offerings such as Swiggy’s Bolt and Zepto Cafe.
The introduction of Bistro comes at a strategic time for Blinkit, as rapid delivery companies increasingly look to capitalise on the food delivery segment.
The shift is intended to tap into new revenue streams, supplementing existing quick-commerce services, which already promise grocery deliveries in under ten minutes.
In early December 2024, Zomato raised more than Rs85bn ($1bn) through a qualified institutional placement – its first significant fundraising since going public in 2021.
The company plans to strengthen its quick commerce operations in response to fierce market competition.
