AirAsia Superapp and food delivery platform Foodpanda have extended their existing partnership into Thailand.

As part of this collaboration, AirAsia Superapp customers will gain access to Foodpanda's food delivery services, as well as a wide range of menus from restaurant partners across Thailand.

The companies said that customers can order their favourite cuisines anytime, from anywhere, irrespective of their location.

AirAsia Superapp partnerships & global markets head Ben-Jie Lim said: “This partnership bolsters both applications, introducing users to innovative services catering to diverse needs and enhancing overall convenience.

Simultaneously, Foodpanda customers will gain access to budget-friendly, ride-hailing service from AirAsia ride.

The partnership will also allow Foodpanda users to choose from AirAsia ride’s different options related to advance car reservations and its streamlined travel planning for local Thai customers and foreign tourists.

Lim added: “Foodpanda users can seamlessly access ride-hailing services directly through the app, facilitating more convenient and efficient travel within Bangkok, all at an appealing price point.

“Moreover, for every Bt15 ($0.41) spent on AirAsia ride service in Foodpanda app, users will earn one AirAsia point, which can be redeemed for a variety of products and services across AirAsia Superapp.”

The AirAsia Superapp, which will be rebranded as AirAsia MOVE, said that the collaboration with Foodpanda Thailand will allow both companies to continue strengthening their respective platforms.

The latest deal builds on the initial partnership between the two companies in Malaysia, which was announced in May this year.

Foodpanda Thailand CEO Siripa Jungsawat said: “This partnership will strengthen foodpanda to offer a more comprehensive experience to customers. We have two main objectives for this partnership.

“The first is to deliver a complete and seamless service experience to our existing customers of both AirAsia Superapp and Foodpanda. The second is to expand to a new customer base.”

Quick commerce steadily becoming the norm for most food and grocery delivery companies

The emergence of ecommerce has made it imperative that companies understand consumer behavior, deliver personalized service, and offer competitive pricing models. Per GlobalData estimates, food and drink, clothing and footwear, and accommodation were the top three sectors by global ecommerce transactions in 2022. The rise of quick commerce, particularly within food and drink, allows consumers to have items delivered to their doorstep within the hour, which has driven a surge in online sales for food and drink.
