Italian restaurant group Big Mamma is set to expand its UK presence with the opening of its first regional restaurant in Birmingham by the end of 2024.

The new establishment, La Bellezza, will be located in the city's central Paradise development.

La Bellezza will offer indoor seating for 150 guests and an additional 25 seats on a terrace.

Since its inception in Paris in 2013 by founders Lugger and Seydoux, Big Mamma Group has established a portfolio of 26 restaurants across France, Germany, Monaco, Italy, Spain and the UK, according to a report in The Caterer.

The group's expansion into the UK market began in 2019 with the opening of Gloria in Shoreditch, London. Big Mamma has since opened four more restaurants in London.

Big Mamma co-founders Victor Lugger and Tigrane Seydoux said: “We are hugely excited to be coming to Birmingham, not only to be part of its incredibly vibrant restaurant community but to also bring our superb Italian products, which we spent three years personally sourcing from small family-run artisans, to another major European city.”

In September 2023, private investment company McWin Capital Partners entered a partnership agreement to secure a controlling interest in the Italian restaurant chain Big Mamma Group.

The purchase is a key component of McWin Capital's plan to enhance its foothold in the European restaurant sector.

The acquisition was backed by the McWin Restaurant Fund, a €525m ($561.5m) investment vehicle created by McWin to target major restaurant groups and brands.

Big Mamma’s co-founders, Victor Lugger and Tigrane Seydoux, will continue as co-CEOs and maintain their minority ownership in the company.
