Italian coffee chain Café Barbera has opened its first location in Greece, its fifth European market, World Coffee Portal has reported.

Located in Athens, the new store also marks the launch of the brand’s first mini-store concept in the European region.

The new mini-store concept has been designed and developed to increase Café Barbera’s presence in high-footfall locations such as shopping centres, commercial buildings, universities, office areas, airports and metro stations.

Café Barbera managing director Elio Barbera was quoted by World Coffee Portal as saying: “The company-owned store, located in the historical centre of Athens, will serve as a business model for the new format.

“The coffee chain plans to launch multiple mini stores across Athens in the next three years.”

This is Café Barbera’s fourth market entry over the 12 months to November 2023.

In November 2022, it opened its first store in Djibouti in the Horn of Africa. A location in Palestine and another in Tbilisi, Georgia, which opened in October 2023, then followed.

The coffee chain currently operates across 18 world markets, of which five are located in Europe, including Italy, Ukraine and the UK.

Café Barbera opened its first franchised location in 2004 and now has 40 locations in 17 different countries.

Robots are well established in consumer goods and packaging industries, though adoption in foodservice is at a nascent stage

Current metaverse applications in the T&T sector either focus on digital marketing campaigns with real-world rewards for consumers, creating immersive experiences on-site for digitally savvy consumers through AR and VR metaverses, or improving operational efficiency through digital twin technology. As the metaverse evolves, it could offer virtual travel opportunities that complement traditional tourism. However, uptake of the metaverse by smaller travel and tourism operators will remain limited until use cases are affordable and provide a guaranteed return on investment.
