Canadian online food delivery platform SkipTheDishes has appointed Paul Burns as its new CEO.

Burns recently served as managing director at X (formerly known as Twitter) and will succeed interim CEO Steve Puchala, who was appointed by the company this year.

Burns has more than two decades of experience garnered at both start-ups and established organisations, including X, Huge, Shaw Communications and Canwest.

In his new role, he will be responsible for driving forward Canada's homegrown delivery network.

Burns stated: “Having witnessed Skip's incredible rise from a start-up in 2012 to the industry-leading organisation it is today, I am honoured to be stepping into the position of CEO and working with a very talented team to create more transformative delivery experiences for Canadians.

“This is an ever-evolving and dynamic industry that is only limited by our imaginations. I am excited about what we will create together as we nurture a culture of innovation, compassion and humility, designed to attract and retain world-class talent.”

SkipTheDishes is part of Just Eat Takeaway.com, a global online food delivery marketplace that connects millions of customers with more than 50,000 restaurant partners in Canada.

Puchala will retire at the end of this year.

GrubHub North America executive vice-president and CEO Howard Migdal stated: “Steve's tenure as interim CEO has been hallmarked by an emphasis on innovation, exploring and delivering new ways to show up for Skip's loyal customer base.

“He has helped set the stage for the next phase of Skip's growth under the impressive leadership of Paul Burns, who brings to the table an ambition to continue to trailblaze and take Skip to new heights as both a Canadian and global organisation.”

Grubhub has been a subsidiary of Dutch company Just Eat Takeaway since 2021.

In May 2023, Canadian restaurant chain Boston Pizza selected Skip as its exclusive delivery partner in select markets across the country.
