On-demand delivery management platform Cartwheel has partnered with Toast Partner Ecosystem to help restaurants enhance their in-house delivery operations.

Integrating Cartwheel’s hybrid delivery technology and third-party fleet-management capabilities with Toast’s point-of-sale (POS) system will allow restaurant companies to seamlessly oversee delivery operations.

Cartwheel explained that its hybrid solution had been designed to optimise both in-house and outsourced deliveries, facilitating flexibility and choice for streamlined order fulfilment.

Cartwheel co-founder and CEO Alex Vasilkin emphasised the importance of Toast's open and partner-driven approach, enabling diverse restaurants to harness Cartwheel’s advanced technology for delivery optimisation.

Vasilkin said: “Especially in categories like pizza, where efficiency is paramount, we are proud to equip Toast customers with the tools to excel in delivery operations.”

Toast’s cloud-based digital platform has been developed to meet the diverse requirements of the restaurant industry.

Toast Partner Ecosystem is currently comprised of more than 200 restaurant partners.

Toast Business Development senior director Keith Corbin said: “We are delighted to welcome Cartwheel to the Toast Partner Ecosystem and extend our customers the advantages of Hybrid Delivery and fleet management capabilities seamlessly integrated with the Toast POS.

“This collaboration empowers restaurants to not only enhance their in-house delivery operations but also tap into a multitude of third-party fleets to optimise the overall delivery experience.”

Earlier this month, Toast launched the Catering & Events platform, which has been designed to help restaurants streamline their event management and enhance guests’ experience.

The new platform will integrate with Toast POS, allowing restaurants to manage large catering orders and event planning.

Customer engagement drives metaverse investment in the foodservice sector

COVID-19 and supply chain disruptions following the Ukraine war have accelerated automation and digitalization in the foodservice sector. Home delivery services and consumer engagement through digital channels have become essential for businesses trying to stay afloat. Foodservice companies must also cope with ESG issues, the fast-changing world of work, and the global economy heading for recession and possible stagflation. The metaverse, enabled by both AR and VR, is an important tool that can help address many of the foodservice industry's key challenges.
