The Cheshire Cheese pub, in the southeastern corner of the City of London, has re-opened following a significant renovation.

The pub, now located under Fenchurch Street Station's railway arches, has been serving patrons since the 1600s.

It celebrated its facelift with a VIP night before welcoming the public the next day. Opening night was marked by a performance from local band The Order.

The renovation of the Cheshire Cheese, now under the ownership of the Stonegate Group, has been described as an upgrade to the pub's facilities.

General manager Mark Murphy said: “These renovations are in line with Stonegate’s commitment to always improve and innovate, enabling us to enhance our guest experience.

“The renovations have improved our warm and welcoming atmosphere while developing the community feel of the pub.

“We’re confident in our competitively priced top-class beer range, our new and improved facilities allowing for a more comfortable and enjoyable pub experience, and alongside the best darts room in town, we know locals are going to love the new-look pub.”

This enhancement is expected to create two new job opportunities. The refurbishment is also aimed at enhancing the pub’s offerings while preserving its historic charm.

The pub now offers nine TV screens and a new dartboard.

The Cheshire Cheese has also become a dog-friendly establishment, a move that is likely to appeal to dog walkers along the nearby river Thames.

A varying range of cask ales has also been introduced on a rotating selection. The menu also has low and no-alcohol options.

Complementing the drinks, the Cheshire Cheese offers dishes from sharers and small plates to burgers and pub classics.
