US fast-food restaurant chain Chick-fil-A has unveiled plans to open its first mobile pickup restaurant in New York City (NYC).

The restaurant will be opened on New York City’s Upper East Side on 21 March 2024.

The new establishment, Chick-fil-A 79th & 2nd, will focus solely on delivery and mobile app ordering options and will not offer a seating area or dine-in services.

Orders for takeaway or delivery can be placed online or via the Chick-fil-A app, and geofencing lets the restaurant know when customers are on their way so that their prepared food arrives at the appropriate moment.

The restaurant will feature active status board screens so that guests and delivery drivers can see when their orders are ready in real time.

The new digital-focused location will be owned and operated by Jared Caldwell, who also operates the nearby Chick-fil-A on Third Avenue and 86th Street.

The new mobile pickup restaurant is one of the two digital-focused test concepts the company is introducing.

Chick-fil-A’s second concept is the elevated drive-through concept set to open later in 2024.

Chick-fil-A senior principal design lead Nathaniel Cates stated: “At Chick-fil-A, we are always looking for ways to innovate and enhance the guest experience.

“While digital concepts are becoming more prevalent, it’s important that we evolve in a uniquely Chick-fil-A way – meeting the changing needs of our customers without compromising the signature service and care they’ve grown to know and love.”

Last month, Chick-fil-A unveiled its plan to bolster its presence in Alberta, Canada, with three new restaurants later in the year. The company plans to open 20 outlets in the province by 2030.
