Franchised coffee chain Green House plans to increase its store count in Russia to 100 in the first six months of 2024, World Coffee Portal has reported.

This follows a year of significant growth for the company, which added 18 net new locations in 2023, bringing its total to 69 locations.

The restaurant company currently has 15 more locations under development.

The majority of Green House's outlets - more than 50 - are situated in the Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk.

Despite the economic challenges following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Green House reported record annual sales of Rbs584.3m ($6.5m) in 2023.

The company referred to this period as one of "restructuring".

“2023 became the most successful year for the chain both in terms of revenue and growth of coffee shops. 18 coffee shops in a year is our new record. Revenue exceeding Rbs500m is also a new record. The immediate goal is 100 coffee shops in the network”, a Green House report stated.

Green House is aiming to operate 1,000 franchised stores by 2030.

The chain was founded in 2012 by entrepreneurs Egor Tokhtobin, Alexey Shu and Artem Kalchenko, with its first store opening in the Kvant shopping centre in Krasnoyarsk.

It offers three franchised store formats to accommodate different market needs: a compact 10m² coffee bar, a mid-sized 20 to 50m² coffee shop and a larger 50 to 80m² outlet.

The coffee chain's expansion comes at a time when other prominent operators, such as Starbucks, McCafé and Krispy Kreme, have exited the Russian market in response to the invasion of Ukraine.

Their outlets have in many cases been acquired by local entrepreneurs and rebranded, continuing to serve the market under names including Stars Coffee, Vkusno i Tochka and Krunchy Dream.
