Compass One, part of Compass Group UK & Ireland, has announced the acquisition of Peabodys Coffee, a provider of food and beverages within healthcare environments.
The move is part of Compass Group's strategy to extend its presence in the healthcare sector.
Peabodys Coffee, known for its organic coffee, has been serving London hospitals since 1997 and currently operates across England at 10 National Health Service (NHS) sites.
Led by managing director Claudia Mascino, Peabodys has 55 employees and serves freshly prepared food daily to NHS staff, visitors and patients.
The acquisition by Compass Group is expected to support Peabodys Coffee's growth, with plans to launch new cafés at seven additional hospital sites.
Compass One CEO Mark Webster said: “We have long admired the ethos of Peabodys Coffee. With a fantastic reputation for great coffee and food, along with an unwavering commitment to sustainability, while supporting the NHS, Peabodys Coffee possesses strong and admirable values that align with our own.
"We are excited about the opportunity to support their growth, bringing Peabodys Coffee to many more NHS sites in the future, for NHS staff, patients and visitors to enjoy.”
Mascino said: “We are really excited about the opportunity joining Compass presents. Bringing the Peabodys Coffee offer to more NHS hospitals has long been an ambition of mine.
“Our values around sustainability, great food and coffee are entrenched in our business and what makes us special. I am passionate about supporting our NHS and delighted to be able to grow and invest further in our business.”
The acquisition of Peabodys Coffee follows Compass Group UK & Ireland's recent purchase of CH&CO, a food services provider in the UK and Ireland.
Compass Group India, a subsidiary of the Compass Group, acquired a 70% stake in ICS Foods in August 2024.
